The Islamist movement in Turkey has undergone profound and complex transformations from the establishment of the Republic until 2002. This article analyzes the evolution of this movement with a focus on the concepts of "radicalism" and "pragmatism." The primary question of this research is what political and international factors influenced the transformations of the Islamist movement in Turkey and how these factors contributed to the shift in the movement's discourse from radicalism to pragmatism. Using a historical analysis method and drawing on both written and online sources, this study demonstrates that the Islamist movement in Turkey initially emerged as a radical response to secularism and Western modernity, with the goal of providing an alternative to Western modernity. However, internal political developments and changes in the international sphere led to significant transformations within the movement. Particularly after the 1990s and the rise of the Justice and Development Party, the Islamist movement shifted towards pragmatism and alignment with Turkey's political system, integrating modernity with Islamic principles. This shift not only impacted Turkey's domestic policies but also transformed the country's relations with global powers. The findings of the study indicate that the transformations of the Islamist movement in Turkey resulted from the complex interaction of domestic and international factors, facilitating the transition from radicalism to pragmatism.
