Abstract

The AKP has been at the forefront of Turkey's political power since 2002. The AKP's foreign policy analysis is essential to understanding its positions. The purpose of the present study is to explain the AKP's foreign policy behavior towards the Islamic Republic of Iran. Its identity approaches are analyzed according to Went's theory in the framework of constructivist theory. Accordingly, the research question is: "What are the identity approaches that influence the AKP's foreign policy behavior towards the Islamic Republic of Iran?" This paper is a descriptive-analytical study using library documents to identify the approaches that influence the AKP's positions towards the Islamic Republic of Iran. This study is an applied one in terms of purpose. The findings of the article suggest that AKP's identity approaches can be effective in explaining its foreign policy behavior towards the Islamic Republic of Iran. The present study chose "cooperative policy-making" as the chosen foreign policy behavior among the cases examined for the AKP.
